Chelsea to secure mega-money windfall, if Bayern sell Musiala

If Bayern Munich sells 21-year-old German phenom Jamal Musiala—who is rumored to be heading to Manchester City and Liverpool—to one of the biggest teams in the world, Chelsea might receive a massive financial windfall.

At the age of sixteen, Musiala left Chelsea's academy to join Bayern, having agreed to a compensation deal estimated to be worth roughly €200,000 (£170,000).

Although there was no buy-back clause added to that 2019 move, Mail Sport has been informed by sources that a 20% sell-on charge was.

With 25 caps last week, Rio Ferdinand was all praise for the Germany international, stating he 'has the potential to win the Ballon d'Or'.

Rival teams are hovering in the hopes that Bayern will be unable to reach an extension agreement with Musiala, a young player who assisted two goals and scored one in Bayern's most recent Bundesliga victory over Mainz. Musiala's current deal is set to expire in 2026.

Chelsea would be owed an incredible £16 million if Musiala's sale brought in £80 million. Even if the money were paid in installments, this amount would help Chelsea meet the Premier League's profit and sustainability requirements.

Chelsea insists they will adhere to PSR, even though their rivals assert they must raise a substantial amount of money this summer in order to stay in compliance.

When Chelsea was condemned in 2014 for not obtaining a sell-on clause during the negotiations of Romelu Lukaku's transfer to Everton, they were taught a hard lesson.

In 2017, he was traded to Manchester United for £75 million; the London team did not receive any compensation for the sale.

Musiala's summer sale is not guaranteed because Bayern has made it clear that they want to sign him to a long-term contract.

But the longer a breakthrough eludes them, the more likely it is that eager teams will act as the next window draws closer.

Musiala is the perfect age for Chelsea's approach to acquiring young players, and Mauricio Pochettino has called him "one of the best young players in the world with Gavi and Pedri." Chelsea has been connected to Musiala and will keep an eye on the situation.

Though he is eligible for England after playing for their youth teams, Musiala has won many Bundesliga titles with Bayern and has been capped 25 times by Germany. He is currently represented by the agency 11WINS

Musiala had been with Chelsea since he was eight years old, and although they wanted him to stay when he was sixteen, the starlet from Stuttgart chose to go on an adventure in Munich.

It is believed that Chelsea's right to reimbursement from Bayern was dependent on the contract offer.

Clubs make every effort to reach a resolution in order to prevent the issue from proceeding to a tribunal, which can be expensive.

Mail Sport revealed last month that Chelsea had been ordered to reimburse Brighton further for two of its youthful talents that they had acquired, following a tribunal's ruling that required them to pay up to £7.65 million.

Zak Sturge and Shumaira Mheuka made their moves in 2022, but the Seagulls can now boast of both players receiving 20% sell-on fees in addition to a large payment.
