Chelsea have officially confirmed the double signing of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Borussia Dortmund and Joao Pedro from Brighton in a statement released this morning, marking a major statement of intent as the Blues look to bolster their squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Bynoe-Gittens joins the West London outfit in a deal worth £55 million, ending his impressive stint in the Bundesliga where he had developed into one of Europe’s most promising young wingers. The 20-year-old Englishman has agreed to a long-term contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 2032.
Brazilian forward Joao Pedro also makes the move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea shelling out £55 million up front, plus a further £5 million in performance-related add-ons. Like Bynoe-Gittens, he has committed to the club on a contract running through the summer of 2032.
Both players successfully completed their medicals over the weekend and are expected to link up with the Chelsea squad in the United States later this week, as the team prepares for their FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final clash against Palmeiras.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca expressed his excitement over the new arrivals. “Jamie and Joao are two exceptional young talents who fit the vision we’re building here. Their versatility, pace, and technical quality will give us fresh options in the attacking third,” he said in a club interview.
Bynoe-Gittens, a product of Manchester City’s academy before moving to Dortmund, made a name for himself in Germany with his fearless dribbling and ability to create chances from wide areas. Meanwhile, Joao Pedro enjoyed a breakout 2024/25 season at Brighton, scoring 16 goals and assisting 9 more across all competitions.
The pair are expected to feature in Chelsea’s pre-season preparations and could make their debuts in the Club World Cup quarter-final, a competition the Blues are taking seriously as they aim to begin the season with silverware.
Chelsea’s spending under their ownership group shows no signs of slowing, with this double signing pushing their summer outlay beyond the £200 million mark. With the additions of Bynoe-Gittens and Joao Pedro, Chelsea continue to build one of the most exciting and youthful attacking units in Europe.
